Environmental Justice Coordinator

Wendy Baresi

About

Helloooo everybody! My name is Wendy Gabriela Baresi and I am currently a junior here at Stanford. My major is currently undecided, but I am heavily leaning towards Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. When I am not working at the WCC, I love to take part in photography, planting, painting, jewelry making, reading, and immersing myself in nature. A bit of background from me is that I grew up in a large and lively Latine community called Westlake, MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. I identify as FLI (first-generation, low-income), and understand the challenges that come with this, especially having come from such an impacted community in Los Angeles. This upcoming year, I am going to be the Environmental Justice Coordinator here at the WCC. In this role, I hope to give back the voices of those who have been heavily impacted by environmental injustice and racism, especially among marginalized communities. Having experienced how the power of my people back home has been able to push out gentrification from invading our families for so many years has taught me how important having a community is to survive. In the following year, I aim to create a supportive community of folks interested in the multifaceted aspects of Environmental Justice, in hopes of learning and teaching others how we can care for and protect one another.
